Word of the Day: What is “QRV?”

In today’s Word of the Day entry, we tackle QRV—one of early radio’s Q-Signals. These abbreviations beginning with the letter Q were used by operators to save time and simplify communication between different language speakers. QRV means “I am ready,” as in “the DXpedition team is ready to take your call.” For example, when the 2017 VK9MA Mellish Reef DXpedition announced that the team will be “QRV from Heralds-Beacon Islet on all bands,” they meant they would be operating from that location on all bands.
