Video: 2 Meter FM vs. HF FT8—a Head to Head SOTA Challenge

On a brutally cold and windy day in North Wales, SOTABeams’ Richard, G3CWI, operated an HT on 2 meter FM from two SOTA (Summits On The Air) locations while another Ham, Tom, worked HF FT8 not far away. The objective was to see who could make the most contacts. It quickly turned into a challenge of how long they could endure the frigid temperatures and blustery conditions. They began on SOTA North Wales 42 (Moel y Gamelin), breaked for lunch, and finished on SOTA North Wales 43 (Cyrn-y-Brain). Then it was off to the pub to compare results.
