Yaesu’s Latest Handheld Transceiver, the FT5DR, Now Available from DX Engineering

The announcement of a new amateur radio rig is always big news. When it comes loaded with as many goodies as Yaesu’s full-featured FT5DR, it’s time to organize a parade down main street and herald its arrival with an all-out fireworks display. The FT5DR replaces the FT3DR, which Yaesu announced will no longer be produced by the company.

The FT5DR, 5W C4FM/FM 2M/70cm Dual Band Digital Transceiver comes in a compact package (2.44″ W x 3.94″ H x 1.34″ D) but delivers in a major way with its new sophisticated functions and superior operability. It provides reliable 5W RF output and achieves 1W audio power that has been tuned to produce stellar sound. Features include:

  • Real Dual Band Operations (V+V, U+U, V+U, U+V)with two independent receivers
  • Large individual LED indicators for A band and B band present the status and communication modes (C4FM or Analog) of each band instantly
  • Supports simultaneous C4FM digital(C4FM/C4FM standby)
  • Rugged and shock-resistant construction, including rubber protectionon the corner of the main body
  • Full-flat back body for excellent grip
  • IPX7 waterproof rating
  • High-resolution display highlights the frequency of the operational band
  • Three touch panel keys and seven operation keys below the display offer intuitive operability

The FT5DR includes C4FM digital communication features such as Automatic Mode Select (AMS), Digital Group ID (DG-ID) operation, and Smart Navigation. The device also supports the WiRES-X Portable Digital Node Function. A portable digital node can be easily set up with the new FT5DR, an internet connected laptop PC, and the optional SCU-39 cable kit.

Advanced features of the FT5DR include:

A new Quick Release Holster (SHB-26)is included in the FT5DR package as a supplied accessory that allows single-touch attaching and detaching of the transceiver while wearing the holster on a belt.
