New Product Spotlight: Alpha Antenna HexTenna™ Deluxe Multiband Rigid Dipole and Vertical Antenna

Just one of many Alpha Antenna options now available at DX Engineering

Ask an experienced amateur radio operator the value of a proven antenna and expect to hear wise advice from folks who know that no matter what transceiver you’re using, efficient and effective operating is heavily dependent on what you’ve invested in your Yagis, verticals, dipoles, loops, satellite antennas, Hexbeams, and on and on.

It’s the reason a large portion of the DX Engineering Amateur Radio Products Catalog is devoted to antennas of all kinds, from VHF/UHF mobile models to multi-element HF beams. In the 2025 edition, you’ll also find well-established antenna manufacturers that are being carried by DX Engineering for the first time. Among those is Alpha Antenna, the subject of today’s post.

About Alpha Antenna

Established in 2005, Alpha Antenna’s goals are to “provide revolutionary communication solutions through innovative antenna technologies,” per the company website. “With a commitment to delivering superior performance, reliability, and adaptability, Alpha Antenna aims to continue as a leader in the rapidly evolving landscape of wireless communication.”

Based in Missouri, Alpha Antenna’s business model pledges quality assurance through “adhering to rigorous testing standards and operational designs using Fusion 360,” a platform that integrates 3D, CAD, and other tools for design and manufacturing.

DX Engineering Welcomes Alpha Antenna

DX Engineering currently carries 19 models of antennas from Alpha, including these:

Today, we’ll be focusing on the HexTenna Deluxe Multiband Rigid Dipole and Vertical Antenna. Reviewers on eham.net have offered high praise for Alpha Antenna’s HexTenna™, calling it “a fantastic balance of portability and base applications,” an antenna “built on the principle of solid RF engineering and first-rate craftsmanship,” “the easiest to deploy remote antenna I’ve ever used,” an “excellent performer,” and “the best remote antenna made in the world today.”

This versatile, resonant, legal-limit portable rigid dipole and vertical antenna system covers 40-6M, 2M, 1.25M, and 70cm (1,500W PEP SSB), providing reliable performance across multiple bands whether you’re operating in the field, at home, or during emergency situations.

As a vertical, the HexTenna is deployable as a HF/VHF/UHF antenna from 14 MHz through 440 MHz. This configuration provides the lowest take-off angle, enhancing DX performance. As a dipole, it is deployable as a HF/VHF antenna from 40-2M for higher take-off angles, enhancing NVIS performance.

Key benefits include:

  • Adjustable telescopic whips for fine-tuning to specific bands
  • Quick and easy setup with the included heavy-duty Surveyor Tripod
  • Lightweight and compact design for easy transport and storage

The HexTenna Deluxe Package Includes:

  • Two 17-Foot, 9-Inch Stainless-Steel Telescopic Whips (with “Alpha Antenna” laser engraved)
  • HexTenna Hub
  • Two 18-Foot Clip-On Wire Elements (one set)
  • 31-Foot Counterpoise for use on 20-12 meters
  • Heavy-Duty Surveyor Tripod
  • Surveyor Tripod Adapter (Converts the 5/8″-11 tripod mounting stud to 3/8″-24

Additional Information

The HexTenna Deluxe features telescopic whips that can be adjusted for the specific band you are using. These whips are angled to convert the naturally occurring 72-ohm dipole component to 50-ohm impedance. It is not a “no tune all-band antenna.” For instance, when deployed for 20 meters, it has two self-supporting telescopic whips with a total deployed length of approximately 34 feet. The resonance occurs naturally as you adjust the whips for the desired band. Additionally, when deployed on 40 meters, the antenna becomes an M-Dipole with each side measuring 35 feet, 9 inches.

What do Hams Say?

“Five Stars: The HexTenna with the tripod is an amazing combo. With a little practice, I can get this antenna on the air on 20M in literally five minutes. It also has vertical capabilities like other portable vertical antennas. I am satisfied and this is my go-to antenna for portable operation.”
