Ham Products for Effective Grounding and Lightning Protection: DX Engineering Copper Cleaning Kit

If you need to remove oxides before joining or mounting something to a copper mounting plate, like a Radio RF Ground Plane Kit, GBWM-W Copper Ground Bus Wall Mount, or Copper Grounding Plate Kit, an easy way to maintain their low-resistance properties is to clean and prep all surfaces with DX Engineering’s Copper Cleaning Kit (DXE-CCK). It contains everything you need to ensure a solid, low-impedance bond—free from corrosion and surface patina. The kit comes with a copper impregnated paste which allows you to bond your lightning protection devices together.

Cleaning kits include:

  • LB 8008 Loctite Copper Based Anti-Seize Lubricant Paste, 1 ounce tube
  • 3 Scotch-Brite cleaning pads
  • Brush
  • 9 moist finger-cleaning packets

Just follow this simple process:

  1. Remove all oxide material using the Scotch-Brite cleaning pads in a circular motion. You must clean the metal surfaces of both the items being mounted together until they are bright metal.
  2. Apply the LB 8008 Loctite Copper Based Anti-Seize Lubricant Paste lightly to both parts with a brush. The paste should ooze evenly outward from the joint as pressure is applied. The more pressure, the lower the joint resistance.
  3. Firmly secure the devices together (or on the copper mounting plate). The paste and its conductive copper particles creates an oxygen-free environment at the seal. Excess paste should be evenly spread to keep water out of the joint.
  4. Use the moist towelettes to clean paste from your hands.

Also available at DX Engineering: Jet-Lube SS-30 Pure Copper Anti-Seize Lubricant, which is highly recommended for use on surfaces where you need excellent electrical and RF conductivity, including taps, lugs, aluminum tubing joints, copper grounding straps, clamps, and stainless steel hardware. It helps prevent oxidation and corrosion, which makes it an effective thread lubricant and anti-oxidant termination compound.
