DX Engineering was excited last month to announce its partnership with FlexRadio, the world-renowned manufacturer of exceptional-quality transceivers trusted by legions of contesters, DXers, remote operators, and discerning amateur enthusiasts around the globe.

Through an agreement with the Texas-based company, DX Engineering is now selling FlexRadio FLEX-8000 Series transceivers, the Maestro™ Control Console, and accessories.

With the announcement, DX Engineering becomes an exclusive distributor of FlexRadio products in the U.S. and will join FlexRadio’s network of international distribution partners. All FlexRadio product support, warranty and service will continue to be provided through FlexRadio.

Customers may also opt to purchase a DX Engineering Protection Plan for the FLEX-8000 Series transceivers. The protection plan, which covers mechanical/electrical failure and other issues, begins after the end of the FlexRadio two-year manufacturer warranty. The DX Engineering Protection Plan for the Maestro begins 31 days from ship date. Get full details about the DX Engineering Protection Plan here.

Also, watch the video below featuring Tim Duffy, K3LR, DX Engineering CEO, interviewing Andy Mitchell, VA3CW/NA8F of FlexRadio about the value the DX Engineering/FlexRadio partnership brings to the amateur radio community, the benefits of the 8000 Series transceivers and Maestro Control Console, and the upcoming release of the FlexRadio Aurora Series Transceivers, which will also be available at DX Engineering upon release.

“The Aurora is the 500-watt version of what you might see in a FLEX-8000 Series radio,” Mitchell explains. “What makes it cool is the fact that it is cool. It consumes very little power, but, importantly, generates 500 watts with 80% or better efficiency. The power supply is built into it. The 500-watt antenna tuner is built into it—basically, everything that you would want in a 500-watt station in one box.”

In addition, DX Engineering and FlexRadio share U.S./Canada distribution rights for 4O3A’s line of Genius devices: the Power Genius XL Amplifier, Tuner Genius XL Antenna Tuners, and Antenna Genius 8×2 Antenna Switch.

Designed for hams who operate exclusively via remote access, the FLEX-8400 is engineered as a server-based SDR transceiver. It supports SmartSDR® clients on Windows, Mac, iOS, and Maestro, allowing seamless control from virtually anywhere. With dual independent receivers and full duplex cross-band capability, it’s ideal for DXing, contesting, and digital modes—no external sound cards or interfaces required.

Using a PC, laptop, or Mac client, the FLEX-8400 supports up to two 7 MHz spectrum/waterfall displays and independent receivers, providing enhanced band visibility. Both receivers can operate simultaneously on any band and mode, with instant QSY between VFOs. Digital mode operation is streamlined—no sound cards, cables, or external interfaces required. The radio delivers advanced band awareness, low phase noise, brick wall filters, and high-quality audio performance to support a wide range of operating styles.

FlexRadio’s SmartSDR™ software is compatible across the entire FLEX-8000 Signature Series, supporting ongoing software enhancements. SmartLink™ technology enables remote access to your radio from any SmartSDR-compatible client using just a login and password—including on iPhone.

The FlexRadio 8400ATU Signature Series model comes with an integrated automatic antenna tuner for tuning antennas up to 3:1 SWR or better on 80-10M and 2.5:1 SWR on 160M and 6M.

The FLEX-8400M combines all the capabilities of the FLEX-8400 with an eight-inch 1920 × 1200 IPS WUXGA touchscreen and intuitive controls, delivering high-performance SDR functionality in a traditional radio interface. Unmatched band awareness comes from the integrated display, while support for external monitors at 1920 × 1200 resolution enhances spectral visibility.

Designed with input from top contest and DX operators, the symmetrical and independent dual VFO controls are strategically placed to maximize productivity across all operating styles. Fully self-contained, the transceiver requires no PC, network, or steep learning curve—just plug in and operate.

Then 8400MATU model features ergonomic controls, high-resolution display, and integrated automatic antenna tuner.

FlexRadio 8600 HF/6M Signature Series SDR Transceivers deliver top-tier performance using direct sampling SDR technology, making them an ideal choice for serious HF and 6-meter operators. Designed for remote operation, the FLEX-8600 functions exclusively as a server, accessible via PC, laptop, Maestro, Mac*, or iOS* clients—locally or remotely.

*Mac OSX SmartSDR and iOS SmartSDR clients are provided by third-party vendors.

This model supports Adaptive Predistortion and includes a built-in antenna tuner, 10 MHz reference input, and an integrated GPS receiver with antenna to maintain frequency stability without manual adjustment. An optional GPSDO module (sold separately) is available for ultra-high frequency precision and accuracy.

The FLEX-8600 features direct sampling SDR at 245.76 Msps with 16-bit resolution, achieving 115 dB RMDR at 2 kHz and >155 dB dynamic range. It supports 100W PEP HF-6M operation across all modes and bands, with contest-grade band filters offering >50 dB rejection for superior signal isolation.

Operators can utilize four independent 14 MHz spectrum/waterfall displays and four independent band/mode receivers. The transceiver supports full duplex cross-band operation on two antennas, allowing simultaneous transmit and receive on different bands without external equipment. It also enables true diversity reception to improve weak-signal detection in high interference environments.

Additional connectivity includes two receive-only ports and two transverter/exciter ports, which can also serve as receive antenna inputs. The FLEX-8600 provides an economical SO2R solution with OTSPR support, enabling a complete legal-limit, all-mode SO2R station when paired with the Power Genius XL LDMOS solid-state amplifier—requiring only one radio, one amp, and three cables. (Amp and cable sold separately.)
