Dayton Hamvention® 2025 Preview: Five Reasons to Stop by the DX Engineering Booth

As you’ve probably learned from reading OnAllBands (or seeing our logo at DXEngineering.com), 2025 is DX Engineering’s 25th anniversary.

That’s great news for amateur operators who are headed to the 2025 Dayton Hamvention® May 16-18 for the year’s biggest celebration of amateur radio. DX Engineering always makes this event a huge deal, but we’ve been hard at work to ensure that this will be our most impressive showing yet—a hamfest appearance 25 years in the making. The DX Engineering team will be occupying more space than ever in Building One at the Greene County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Xenia, Ohio.

Here are five reasons to visit (and revisit) the DX Engineering booths while you’re there:

1. Gear You Can Get Your Hands on for Immediate Sale

For DX Engineering, Dayton Hamvention is our “home” show—our chance to go above and beyond for the tens of thousands of hams who converge on southern Ohio. Headquartered near Akron, only three hours north of Xenia, DX Engineering is able to bring more products for purchase, more team members to answer your questions, and more displays so you can see firsthand the many possibilities to upgrade your stations.

While viewing a product online or in the catalog is okay, there’s no replacement for turning actual knobs, putting on a pair of headphones, feeling the solid construction of a quality-made aluminum chassis, assessing the touch of a double paddle, or watching a waterfall in real-time. There’s also nothing better than heading back home to install your purchases without delay.

2. Lots of New Gear to Upgrade Your Station

Space prohibits us from listing all the new items (both brand-new products and established products now carried by DXE) you’ll find at the DX Engineering booths, so here’s a short list to whet your appetite for smoother operating and more QSOs:

  • DX Engineering KD9SV Transceiver to Amplifier Keying Relay— This high-speed, solid-state switching interface is designed to protect transceiver keying circuits from potential damage by amplifier relays. Except for AC switching, the DXE-SV-KR replaces the Ameritron ARB-704, featuring two ground independent isolated keying outputs.

  • ELAD FDM-DUO-R SDR Receiver: This shortwave receiver uses state-of-the-art SDR technology that can be operated like a traditional radio. It includes familiar controls like a large VFO knob, dials for volume and filters, and pushbuttons for frequently used settings, making it as user-friendly as a classic receiver.

  • QuietRadio Aziloop DF-72 Multi-Directional Receive Antenna System: An innovative, low-noise solution for VLF to HF reception, this dual-mode, electronically rotatable HF receive antenna system (AZL-AZILOOP-DF71) features a primary frequency range of 20 kHz-10 MHz, with coverage to 30 MHz at reduced directivity and sensitivity—determined by the size of the user-supplied loop antennas.

3. Get Your Questions Answered by the Most Helpful Hams Anywhere

For the customer support team at DX Engineering, ham radio isn’t a job. It’s a passion. DX Engineering’s team of active operators have more than 1,000 years of amateur radio experience, encompassing every facet of the hobby, from EmComm to contesting.

Stop by with your questions about getting the most out of your time on the air. You’ll receive friendly, patient advice that’s based on your needs—not on selling you gear that may not be right for your station or pursuits.

Plus, stop by DXE’s booths to meet representatives from REZ Antenna Systems, RigExpert, and others who will be showing off their latest equipment.

4. Pick up the New DX Engineering Catalog

This latest candy store of amateur radio fun has a cover featuring past catalog covers in honor of DX Engineering’s 25th anniversary. Inside you’ll find products from familiar manufacturers like Alinco, Comet, DX Commander, Heil Sound, Icom, RigExpert, Vibroplex, and Yaesu, along with gear new to DXE from KiwiSDR2, RigSelect, VE2DX Electronics, Firestik Antenna Co., Alpha Antenna, and many others. There will be plenty of catalogs on hand at the show.

5. Check Out the Summit Racing/DX Engineering “Roamin’ Gladiator” Jeep Gladiator Project Vehicle

This is a must-see for mobile radio enthusiasts and off-road adventurers. DX Engineering and Summit Racing Equipment (DX Engineering’s parent company) teamed up to enhance the off-road and communications capabilities of a 2023 Jeep Gladiator. Summit Racing handled all the automotive goodies (upgraded brakes, suspension, steering, lighting, etc.) while DX Engineering installed mobile radios and antennas for effective amateur radio and GMRS communications. The Gladiator will be on display at DX Engineering’s booth.

Take Home a Souvenir or Three

While you’re having a blast at Hamvention, take a moment to think about those who are not there to partake of this feast of everything amateur radio. A DX Engineering gift from the show says, “Sorry you couldn’t make it this year, but I got you this (fill in blank).” There are many options to fill in the blank with something cool, including hats, mugs, shirts, and more featuring the DX Engineering logo. There are even items celebrating DXE’s 25th anniversary:
